Our journey from 2007 to today
Dave and Mike met in 2007 through their businesses which are motor trade based, Dave owning an MOT station and Mike a bodyshop, they soon became friends due to their mutual love of motorbikes. They raced motocross together for a number of years inc some weekends away practising in Dunquerque, France.
In 2016 they decided to travel to Assen, Holland to watch a friend in the world motocross championship – this went so well the following year they decided to go to Monza to watch the Formula 1 and travel back along the south coast of France and up the west coast.
The trips then started to get bigger and cover more distance including riding through Morocco to the Sahara; they have done this twice now, once in 2018 and again in 2023.
Norway in 2019 with a purpose of riding to Nordkapp, the most northerly point in the world accessible by road.
During these trips and their time spent together they have become the best of mates and decided to embark on the trip of a lifetime covering the length of the Americas. They had talked about this trip many times but never committed to setting a date until Mike faced the challenge of a cancer battle which lasted some two years, during this time Mike remained incredibly positive and the only outcome was beating it. In February 2023 he was given the all clear and a celebratory trip to Morocco was in order, the conversation of actually doing the Americas trip came about and a date was set. The first thing was to find out about shipping bikes over and their minds were put to rest by Motofreight after a conversation at the 2023 ABR festival.
